Defunct – see DfE below.  Department for Children, Schools and Families (formerly DfES) and the central government department for a number of issues, including Education.  The name of the Department of Education and Science (DES) changed to the Department for Education (DFE) on 6 July 1992, then to the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) on 4 July 1995 and to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in June 2001. In June 2007, the DfES became the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
