Guidance for schools: coronavirus (COVID-19)

Added ‘Guidance to support the summer 2021 exams’ to the ‘Exams and assessments’ section, see 01 December 2020 below.

Guidance for full opening of schools:

Updated to state that routine, graded Ofsted inspections will not be reintroduced until the summer term. During the spring term, it is intended that inspectors will conduct monitoring inspections in schools most in need of support.

The key stage 1 tests in English reading and mathematics and the English grammar, punctuation and spelling tests at key stage 1 and 2, will be removed for one year. There will also be no requirement to undertake and report on teacher assessments in science at either key stage. In addition, the introduction of the multiplication tables check will be postponed for a further year, whilst still enabling schools to use it on an optional basis. The statutory rollout of the reception baseline assessment has been postponed until September 2021.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): school and college accountability for the 2020 to 2021 academic year

Updated to announce that for the 2020 to 2021 academic year, schools and colleges will be held accountable for their exam, test and assessment results, but given the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on test, examination and assessment data, this data will not be published in the 2020 to 2021 academic year performance tables. The update is to clarify what this means for the way school and college accountability will operate for the 2020 to 2021 academic year.
