Open letter to the Government

The National Governance Association (NGA), along with 11 organisations representing school leaders, governors, trustees, teachers, support staff and parents, have signed an open letter to Prime Minister Liz Truss and Education Secretary Kit Malthouse warning of their collective concern and dismay over a looming crisis in education funding.

The letter comes shortly after NGA published the results from its 2022 Annual governance survey which highlighted that governors and trustees were most likely to choose balancing the budget as one of their top three challenges for 2022 with just 30% reporting they feel financially sustainable with current levels of funding and income.

The letter is sent as NGA members continue to share the increasing challenges they are facing in managing rapidly rising cost pressures while attempting to steer their schools and trusts clear of long-term deficits.

The organisations who also signed the letter are:

  • Association of Colleges
  • Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL)
  • Community Union
  • GMB Union
  • NAHT
  • NASUWT
  • National Education Union
  • Parentkind
  • Sixth Form Colleges Association
  • UNISON
  • Unite the Union.
