Volunteers required for School Admission Appeals

Devon County Council (DCC) are currently looking to recruit more volunteers for School Admission Appeals. School Admission Appeal hearings determine whether or not a child is admitted on appeal to a school. Training is generally held virtually, held over multiple sessions (usually two per type of appeal). Attendance at all sessions would be required to be qualified to sit on a panel for that type of appeal. Depending on interest, future training sessions may be organised.

Panellists fall into different categories which are detailed below:

  • Lay members – these are people who have not worked in a school in any paid capacity, although they may be (or have been) a school governor or work (or have worked) in a school as a volunteer.
  • Non-Lay members (‘Educationist’) – People who have experience in education or are acquainted with educational conditions in the area, such as teachers or teaching assistants or parents of school pupils.

DCC are currently recruiting for both categories
