Nursery Admissions Policy Updates for 2023 – Governance action required

Devon has a wonderfully diverse range of Early Years provision and every year, during the autumn term the Devon County Council (DCC) Nursery Admissions Policy for community and voluntary controlled (VC) schools is refreshed and then published on the Early Years and Childcare Service (EYCS) website.

Responsibility for managing nursery admissions sits with governors. Although community and VC schools must follow this policy and use the associated documents – all other schools with nursery and preschool provision are welcome to use it too.

On the Early Years and Childcare in Schools webpages schools can now access the relevant documents under the Admissions to nursery places in schools tab.

Schools and boards are asked to take time to read the DCC policy and then review their school nursery admissions policy template and forms. The Nursery admissions policy template (2023), DCAF-0 school nursery application form (2023) and the Note of interest for a nursery place form (2023) all have sections in red that schools need to update to reflect the service on offer. The documents are designed to ensure that schools are considering everything they need to in relation to early years provision e.g., opening times, funding, wraparound care, staffing, charging, as well as the admissions process.
