The future of small schools

Devon has a significant number of small schools. Every school should be in a partnership, especially small schools, to provide the resilience that is needed to ensure good, sustainable education outcomes for all Devon children.

Partnership working is changing with the increase in the number of academies nationally and within Devon.  DAG has updated its ‘Small school checklist’ to help governors think about planning for the future of their schools.

In addition DAG is delighted to host a discussion of real importance to maintained small schools ‘The path to a fully trust led system’, an important topic for all schools on 26th June at 6 pm.

Hannah Woodhouse, SW Regional Director, Department of Education will be outlining the direction of travel for schools, the department’s policy on academisation and the 2022 White Paper, the Academies Regulatory and Commissioning Review and the development of a clear approach to trust quality and commissioning. There will be time for questions.

The event will provide an opportunity for chairs from across the county in maintained and academy schools to join an interactive hour-long session to discuss the path to a fully trust school system. The forum is open to chairs in both maintained and academy schools.  If chairs are unable to attend then a nominated governor or trustee can attend in their place.
