Ofsted Inspection Framework updated for September 2023

Ofsted has reviewed and updated its inspection framework and inspection handbooks.

The following changes will take effect from September 2023:

• Clarification of what they mean by the term leaders and trust leaders
• The role of the trust during inspection
• New section on raising concerns
• Clarification regarding the DfEs minimum expectation of at least a 32.5 hours long school week
• New ‘conduct during inspection’ section
• Confirmation of the likely date of the next inspection
• Protection of anonymity of individuals when drawing on evidence
• Updates to behaviour and attendance sections
• Clarity of ‘capacity to improve’
• Clarity of ‘culture of safeguarding’
• Section 5 inspections are now graded inspections
• Section 8 inspections of good and outstanding schools are now ungraded inspections
• References to ‘fixed term exclusions’ now ‘suspensions’.
