More Industrial action

Industrial action may continue this term as various unions ask their members to support industrial action.

Support staff in schools are voting on whether to strike after their union rejected a pay offer for this year. The GMB union, whose members include teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, caretakers and administrative staff, has said ballots were taking place and will close on 24 October.

NASUWT teaching union members are also set to take part in industrial action short of strike action from Monday 18 September, with the union instructing eligible members to limit their working time by working to rule.

The Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP) has announced that its members have voted to take industrial action in most areas of the country. However,  the union revealed it had also been sent a revised and improved pay offer, which members will now consider before deciding next steps. Pay for educational psychologists, who play a fundamental role in assessing the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities, is set by councils.
