Support Staff Pay Rise Agreed

Unions representing school support staff across England have accepted a flat pay rise of £1,925. Staff covered by the deal include teaching assistants, caretakers, caterers, school business leaders and Governance Professionals/Clerks .

The exact increase that each employee will receive under the offer will vary in percentage terms, with the highest-paid staff getting a rise of 3.88 per cent. The highest rise will come at 9.42 per cent for the lowest-paid employees. It means an increase of £1,925 on all NJC (National Joint Council) pay points, pro rata’d for part-time and term time only staff. This will be backdated to 1 April 2023.

According to the Institute for Fiscal Studies, the pay deal works out as an 8 per cent average rise for support staff.

The rise automatically applies to support staff employed by councils. Academy trusts will not have to honour the deal, but many will do so.
