Digital Standards Guidance published

The Department for Education has just published new guidance on digital leadership and governance standards in schools. The guidance covers all elements of digital technology, hardware and software along with security, digital licenses and subscriptions.

The guidance recommends that boards should:

• Ensure a member of the SLT is responsible for digital technology
• Ensure that digital technology is included in contracts registers, asset registers and information asset registers
• Consider assigning a digital link role to a particular governor or trustee
• Ensure that risk management plans include digital risks such as a data breach or cyber-attack
• Encourage senior leaders to create a digital strategy plan that is reviewed annually with boards providing support and challenge against plans and decisions made.
