A report by Kindred on school readiness following a survey of 1000 parents and 1000 teachers of children of reception age for 2023 has provided some interesting information.
Kindred is a charitable foundation working collaboratively with partner organisations to improve early education and early child development.
Key report findings:
- 50% of school staff say the school readiness problem is worse than in September 2022
- 1 in 4 children are not toilet trained according to teachers when starting reception
- Only 50% of parents think it is their sole responsibility to toilet train their child
- On average approximately a third of the school day is lost due to lack of readiness to start school
- 93% of teachers say that their school is increasing resources to manage school readiness issues
- 22% of parents say they have never had a visit from a health visitor
- 43% of parents say they found out about school readiness too late
- 69% of school staff think parents should receive more guidance
- 54% of parents don’t think school readiness is their responsibility.
