Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme provides grants for public sector bodies to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures.

Of the 222 projects that have been granted funding as part of the latest round of the scheme 47 were listed as schools amounting to funding worth £37 million. The money will be spent on installing heat pumps, solar panels, insulation and will be completed across the next two years.

Launched in 2020, the £2.5 billion Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme has funded more than 1,000 projects and aims to spend more than £12 billion on energy efficiency by 2028.

Devon and Cornwall schools successful in this latest round of grants include:

  • Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust: All Saints Academy Plymouth £674,275
  • Aspire Academy Trust: Mount Hawke Academy Cornwall           £201,118
  • Cornwall Education Learning Trust   £79,789
  • Torquay Boys’ Grammar School Devon                                       £1,824,000

The Devon Association of Governance (DAG) understands that this is a huge topic for schools and is supporting all those involved in governance to consider what they can do to meet the requirements on schools and boards from 2025.

A DAG Community Network for Governors and Trustees online seminar on Environmental Sustainability will take place on Monday 24th June at 6.00pm to bring together leaders in sustainability in education across Devon to assist the school governance community to understand requirements and help governors and trustees to navigate the existing initiatives and resources available to enable progress with developing climate action plans.

The online session will include contributions from experts from Devon County Council and the Diocese of Exeter and will include a question and answer session. The seminar is open to all involved in school governance across the Devon County Council area. Please reserve your place by contacting  [email protected].
