The Devon Association of Governance (DAG) Board meets regularly throughout the year to manage the affairs of DAG and support governing boards to further the interests of children in their schools and the standard of their education.
Dr Adrian Hines is Chair of DAG, a secondary academies representative on the Devon Education Forum and a member of the Schools Finance Group. He has ten years’ experience as a governor, spanning both local governance and multi-academy trust board roles. Adrian is currently Vice-Chair of the Board of the Education South West multi-academy trust, within which he chairs the Finance Committee and sits on the Audit and Risk Committee. He is also Chair of the joint Local Governing Hub for Darite, Lanlivery, Blisland, Harrowbarrow, and Copper Valley Primary Academies within the Bridge Schools multi-academy trust in Cornwall. Adrian says of his governance role:
“As a governor, it’s great to be able to give something back to schools, to help them in their work with children and young people. The opportunity to bring useful skills and experience to bear to have a positive impact is incredibly rewarding, and a fantastic learning experience.”
In addition to his board roles, he was previously part of the Local Leaders of Governance network and is currently a Climate Ambassador. Adrian has held the position of Chair of DAG for three years after holding the Vice Chair role for one year, he says of his work with DAG:
“Within the DAG Board we are all committed to working to support governors across Devon in their roles. We recognise the valuable contribution that governors make to our schools, and are delighted to help in any way that we can through the support that we provide.”
Outside of school governance, Adrian is a Facility Director at the Science and Technology Facilities Council, having previously spent many years at the Met Office leading teams of scientists and software engineers and participating in committee work at local, national, and international level.
