Spotlight on the DAG Board – Niki Glew

The Devon Association of Governance (DAG) Board meets regularly throughout the year to manage the affairs of DAG and support governing boards to further the interests of children in their schools and the standard of their education.

Niki Glew, Vice Chair of DAG, brings nearly two decades of governance experience to the table. She represents primary schools on the Devon Education Forum and has served in both local governance and multi-academy trust board roles. Currently she is a Trustee of the Ivy Education Trust, sitting on the Finance Audit and Risk committee and is Vice Chair of Decoy Community Primary School, where she contributes to the Business and Management Committee.

Niki says of her governance role: “Governance gave me a voice early in my career,” Niki reflects. “As a young governor, I discovered a powerful platform to influence strategic decisions and witness the real-world impact of focused leadership. It’s incredibly rewarding to help shape environments where children thrive, grow in confidence, and are inspired to contribute meaningfully to their communities beyond school.”

With a career spanning Central Government, the private sector and local government as Teignbridge District Council’s Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Officer, Niki’s leadership is rooted in strategic thinking and community impact. Her commitment to raising standards and strengthening communities is evident in every role she takes on. Niki’s governance journey is driven by a belief in the transformative power of education and the importance of strong, accountable leadership. She says of her work with DAG:

Being part of the DAG Board is energising,” she says. “We’re not just supporting governors — we’re building a network of passionate advocates for education. It’s about sharing knowledge, driving improvement, and making sure every child in Devon has access to the best possible start in life.
