The Department for Education (DfE) is planning to make mobile phone guidance statutory, to provide ‘legal force’ to what many schools are already doing.
The change will mean that all schools will have to enforce a ban. An amendment will be issued to the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill to raise existing guidance to a statutory requirement. Research last year found that 90 percent of secondary schools and 99.8 percent of primary schools already have policies in place that stop the use of mobile phones during the day.
