DEVON ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNANCE

The Devon Association of Governance (DAG) is the association representing school governors, trustees, directors, clerks, company secretaries and governance professionals across the Devon Local Authority.

DAG membership is free and automatic for any school governor, trustee, director, clerk, company secretary or governance professional in a governing board or body within the Devon Local Authority, whether in a maintained school, academy or other state funded school.

DAG membership provides many benefits, but for chairs and especially new chairs DAG resources and opportunities focus on key issues for chairs nationally and locally here in Devon.

‘Effective Chairs’ is produced at the beginning of each term and highlights the key issues  for chairs and also provides links to exclusive resources and initiatives created by DAG to support better governance.

Chairs are governors first, so it is worth asking if you and indeed your board are effective. The DAG ‘How Effective Are You?’ quiz is for maintained school governors, academy trustees and academy local governing board or committee governors.  These three different resources provided exclusively for Devon governance boards are an opportunity to check how effective the whole board really is at carrying out their three core functions.

‘DAG Community Networks for Chairs’, is an initiative from DAG that supports chairs from across the Devon local authority to come together remotely in interactive sessions each term to discuss the latest issues affecting governance. Those who attend are chairs of governing boards, chairs of academy trusts and chairs of local academy bodies. Chairs of MATs that have at least one school in the Devon local authority are also welcome to attend. If you would like to register for the next forum, please contact us on [email protected].

DAG also supports clerks to come together regularly in a forum that recognises that clerks have a key role in delivering effective governance. If a clerk or governance professional would like to join the next interactive hour-long session then please contact DAG via [email protected].
