Recent research shows that the South West has the worst educational outcomes for disadvantaged young people in the country and low social mobility compared with other areas.
It is worth noting that in the south west school attainment gaps between poorer pupils and the rest are the largest of all English regions at the end of both primary and secondary school (Social Mobility in the South West – 2022).
This report is part of a growing body of work that shines a light on key issues facing all those involved in education in this region.
Recognising the importance of disadvantage within our county, DAG’s Spring Seminar will explore this topic further. Have you booked your place at the free online DAG Seminar on Monday 20th March at 6.00 pm?
Our speaker will be Professor Tanya Ovenden-Hope. Tanya will update governors, trustees and clerks on the nature of place-based disadvantage in Devon. The seminar will consider socio economic disadvantage, cultural isolation and geographic remoteness that challenges many schools in Devon by limiting their access to resources necessary for school improvement.
To reserve your place and receive your online invitation email [email protected] as soon as possible. This seminar is free to attend for all governors, trustees, clerks and governance professionals in the Devon LA area.
