The Department for Education (DfE) notes that it is important to have publicly available data about exam results for transparency and as a starting point to support parents and students when choosing schools.
However, following COVID-19, primary tests and assessments were cancelled in the academic years 2019/20 and 2020/21 therefore, there will be no KS2 prior attainment data available to use to calculate Progress 8 when the relevant cohorts reach the end of KS4 in academic years 2024/25 and 2025/26.
Alternative options were explored for producing a progress measure in the affected years, but the DfE have concluded that there will be no replacement to Progress 8 for 2024/25 and 2025/26. They will continue to publish the remaining headline attainment, entry and destination measures.
It is intended that there will be a return to producing Progress 8 in 2026/27 when KS2 prior attainment data is available.
