Evolution not revolution

Professor Becky Francis has been appointed to lead a review into the National Curriculum.

She will be part of an expert panel that will call for evidence from parents, teachers and leaders in September with results published in 2025 and changes possibly introduced in September 2026.  There will be a national roadshow to meet and obtain input from staff on the frontline.

The review will cover key stage 1 through to key stage 5 with the aim to deliver excellent foundations in reading, writing and maths and ensure every young person gets the opportunity to develop creative, digital, and speaking and listening skills particularly prized by employers.  The review will also look at the key challenges to youngsters’ attainment and the barriers that hold children back, in particular those who are socio-economically disadvantaged and those with special educational needs.

Views will also be sought on whether the current assessment system can be improved for both young people and staff, while protecting the important role of examinations.
