Ofsted had originally agreed to give schools a full terms notice between the publication of their post-consultation response and inspection materials and the start of education inspections under the new framework.
However, with its plans now not coming out until September, leaders have warned they will have just weeks to prepare for the new regime. Unions have called for the reintroduction of inspections to be pushed back.
Sir Martyn Oliver, Ofsted Chief Inspector has apologised for the lack of notice, but said Ofsted had never paused inspection during development of a new framework before, as it will between September and November.
He confirmed that he is still finalising what will be produced in September, but has asked that the sector judge him by what comes out at that point.
