Two thirds of schools do not have a sustainability lead

A recent poll of teachers suggests that two-thirds of schools do not have a sustainability lead as required by the existing climate change strategy.

Since the change of government little has been said about the plan. The Teacher Tapp Poll reports:

  • Nearly two-thirds said their school did not have someone in the sustainability lead (very little change from 2023, when the number was 68 per cent)
  • Just 24 per cent said they were aware that their school had a sustainability lead, up from 18 per cent two years ago.

Government guidance, last updated in March this year, still has sustainability leads as a requirement, however, the January blog did state that the strategy was being “updated”.

Devon Association of Governance (DAG) has put together a ‘DAG Busy Governance Guide to Environmental Sustainability’ to help all those in governance understand the key themes and requirements.  See the DAG website for details www.dagdevon.com
