Education Estates Strategy

This is a ten year strategy providing more proactive management, long term strategic maintenance and renewal, alongside the deliverance of high quality new buildings where they are needed. This new strategy will replace the school condition improvement fund (CIF).

Points to note:

• CIF will be replaced by 2028
• ‘Managing your education estate database’ will be launched this month
• A decision making framework will be developed for schools and councils to better utilise their surplus land and buildings during demographic change
• Every secondary school in England will be expected to have an inclusion base, either a support base or a specialistic base funded and commissioned by councils
• From autumn 2026, Responsible Bodies will be required to make a light touch annual return via ‘Manage Your Education Estate’ to confirm they are meeting the School Estate Management Standards.
